Heather Twig wine, beer tasting set

The YMCA Wellness Center at St. John Arena, located at 3151 Johnson Road, Steubenville, will be the site of the third-annual wine and beer tasting being organized by the Heather Twig of the Trinity Health System Foundation.

The casual event will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 28 with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., according to co-presidents Cerryn Cottrell Marshall and Elena Crisante.

Tickets are $40 per person and include tastings of a variety of wine and beer; food provided by Manfred’s Restaurant; and music featuring Shawn Villamagna.

“We will be having heavier appetizers than in the past,” Crisante said of the increased food offerings for this year’s fundraiser.

There also will be valet parking, and the building is handicap accessible. Attire is casual.

Tickets are available at the YMCA Wellness Center at St. John Arena and through the Heather Twig website at www.heathertwig.com. They also will be available at the door, but reservations are preferred.

The event will include silent auction items; a 50-50 drawing; and gift boxes/bags for $10 each.

Those attending are encouraged to have proper ID on hand, the co-presidents said.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the YMCA’s youth development program.

Youth Development services engage youth for social, emotional, cognitive and physical behaviors, according to Michelle Wilson, YMCA?director. “This helps to nourish their need to be loved, spiritually grounded, educated, competent and healthy,” Wilson said.

Those development services include the following for youth members: safe environment, supportive environment, peer interaction, youth engagement, wellness programs, fitness programs and enrichment programs.

The second-annual wine and beer tasting proceeds of $17,000 provided funding for the 3D Tomosynthesis Breast Imaging System used in Images Breast Imaging Center at Trinity. The first wine and beer tasting generated funds for the YMCA in general.

The wine and beer tasting fundraiser replaces the Gardenia Ball, what had been a longtime formal fundraiser organized by the Heather Twig.

“Please come – it’s a fun evening, it’s a casual evening compared to what the Gardenia Ball used to be with a wide variety of age groups represented,” Cottrell Marshall said of the fundraiser where patrons can enjoy a relaxing evening out.

Officers in addition to Cottrell Marshall and Crisante are Cindy Brem, secretary, and Lorie Sullivan, treasurer.
