Oglebay Park shops celebrating

spring with lecture series

WHEELING – Oglebay Park will celebrate “Dream … Discover Spring at the Hilltop” with special events Saturday and Sunday at the Palm Room and Greenhouses, Farmhouse Sweets and Treats Shoppe and Carriage House Glass Shops.

The celebration will include a series of lectures. Lectures will include “Fantasy Miniature Gardens,” 11 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Palm Room; “Succulent Wreaths, Living Walls and Kokedama Moss Balls,” 1 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday at Palm Room; “Composting, Herbs and Vegetables,” 2 p.m. Saturday at Palm Room; “Designer Containers and Deer Resistant Plants and Chemicals,” 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Palm Room; and “All-American Selection Plants,” 2 p.m. Sunday at Palm Room.

Drawings for gift baskets will be held at the Palm Room and Farmhouse Sweets and Treats, and a drawing for decorative glass will be held at Carriage House Glass.

All the shops have new merchandise and new flowering plants, and the sweets and treats shoppe has fresh-made fudge.

Newcomers Club to meet

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio – The Wheeling Newcomers Club will hold its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. May 9 at the Belmont Hills Country Club.

Membership is open to all women new to the area. The program is the annual officer installation. Members are invited to wear bright clothing, full skirts and sombreros for the “South of the Border” theme. Lunch is $15 per person. Absentee ballots available

FOLLANSBEE – Applications for absentee mail-in ballots for the city’s June 11 general election are available between 9 a.m. and noon and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Follansbee City Building.

Registered voters who are unable to vote in person may apply. The deadline to register is May 21 at the Brooke County Courthouse.

FOLLANSBEE – The Follansbee Branch Library will hold story hours for children, ages 2-5, and their caregivers at noon Monday and May 13 and 20. Call (304) 527-0860 to register for the free programs.

Library to show comedy

WELLSBURG – The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-13-rated film, “The Guilt Trip,” starring Seth Rogan and Barbara Streisand, at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Church holding revival

WEIRTON – The Morning Star Baptist Church will hold a spring revival at 7 p.m. nightly May 15-17 at the church located at 3124 Weir Ave. The Rev. Brandon A.A.J. Davis, pastor of Waymen A.M.E. Church of Wheeling will speak each night, and the programs will consist of area choirs.
