United Way has a ‘super’ party

WEIRTON – The gallery of the Weirton Knights of Columbus was packed Saturday with a large crowd having a “super” time and helping out the Weirton United Way.

The evening before the Baltimore Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII, the United Way held its second-annual Pre Super Bowl Party, welcoming guests with food, music and the chance to win a variety of prizes.

All proceeds will benefit the Weirton United Way’s 2012 fundraising campaign.

United Way Executive Director Kristin Bowman-Cross thanked everyone in attendance, noting the snow falling outside Saturday night, and recognizing the growth of the event in only its second year.

“We really, really appreciate everyone coming out,” she said. “Last year was our first year, and it is growing.”

The Pre Super Bowl Party was sponsored, in part, by First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union and WTOV-TV, which teamed up to provide the night’s grand prize drawing item, a 55-inch LG 3D LED television, a 3D Blu-ray player and a $500 NFLshop.com gift card.

Other prizes included a Weber grill and a variety of sports-themed gift baskets featuring everything from snacks and blankets to car-care items to game tickets and autographed memorabilia.

Bowman-Cross thanked Scott and Janet Winwood, who chaired the event, and all the volunteers who helped plan the evening. She also thanked Nick Latousakis and Wine and Beverage Merchants, Jim Gerlando and the Knights of Columbus, Signs Unlimited and DJ Chico.

A total on the proceeds from Saturday’s event was not immediately available.
